Unfortunately, one prevalent misperception regarding Fulbright is that it sends outstanding students to the low-ranked U.S. universities. The proponents of this myth allege that Fulbright has limited funds and therefore, cannot send students to top universities. Therefore, a natural question that many Fulbright aspirants ask is which universities do Fulbright scholars study at? In order to find out the answer and know more about whether there is any truth in these claims, we decided to connect with some selected candidates and look into relevant data.
Firstly, it is important to understand that Fulbright selects universities for a candidate and sends applications to those universities. If selected by the university, the candidate then gets the chance to pursue studies at that institution. So if Fulbright wants applicants to go to a low-ranked university, it must select low-ranking universities in the first place, right? However, contrary to the common belief, we found out that admissions for a lot of applicants were sent to the absolutely top-ranked universities including but not limited to
- Harvard University
- Stanford University
- Columbia University
- MIT
- Georgia Tech
- The University of Michigan and many others
Secondly, it is the profile of the candidate that decides wether he makes it to a certain university or not. If a candidate wants to make it to the top university, he/ she must have outstanding undergraduate record, compelling Personal Statement, stellar GRE score and, great research/work experience. If a candidate has a great overall application, he/she will make to the top universities. Besides, a lot of Fulbright applicants have made it to the top-universities, if they can do it, you can do it too.
